Program for Afghan Girls' Empowerment by IWIN

Program for Afghan Girls' Empowerment

IWIN stands shoulder to shoulder with our Afghan sisters in their struggle against the misogynistic Taliban government. Since August 2021, when the Taliban took over the Afghanistan government, they have issued edicts restricting women's mobility and access to education. Currently, no education is available for girls beyond grade 6. Women and girls are also barred from seeking medical care from male doctors and nurses. Still, they are also not allowing women doctors to work or younger generations to have access to higher education.

IWIN is fully committed to working with Afghan women and girls in Canada who have endured this trauma. IWIN is running an empowerment program for young Afghan refugee girls (Aged 9-15) who arrived in Canada under a special resettlement program introduced by the government of Canada after the takeover of the Afghan government by the Taliban.

Their settlement in Canada requires a survivor-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approach that could expose them to the possibilities of life in Canada. The program aims to educate them about life as a girl child in a free society, their rights, independent thinking, perspectives and approaches to interpersonal relationships, boundaries, and consent, which will help them lead more fulfilled and safer lives.
